RoHS compliance

RoHS stands for the 'Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment' (RoHS). We are pleased to confirm that all products within the scope that are manufactured by the Habia Cable group of companies are fully compliant with the EU Directive 2011/65/EU and its amendment 2015/863/EU.

RoHS is an EU directive that restricts the use of cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, flame-retardants PBB and PBDE. Since 22 July 2019 there is also four phthalates added to the directive: DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP. These substances may pose a risk to human health and environment mainly in the handling of waste, and the directive aims to reduce the risks by replacing these substances with less hazardous alternatives. The limit for the substances is 0,1 % by weight in homogeneous materials, except for cadmium where the limit is 0,01 % by weight.

RoHS covers eleven categories of electrical and electronic equipment:

  1. Large household appliances
  2. Small household appliances
  3. IT and telecommunications equipment
  4. Consumer equipment
  5. Lighting equipment
  6. Electrical and electronic tools
  7. Toys, sports and leisure products
  8. Medical devices
  9. Monitoring and control instruments including industrial monitoring and control instruments
  10. Automatic dispensers
  11. Other electrical and electronic equipment not covered by any of the above categories

In addition, these categories are limited to products designed for use with voltage rating not exceeding 1000V AC/1500 V DC. (No lower limit). When applicable Habia comply, regardless of voltage rating, and thereby exceeds the scope of RoHS.

As a manufacturer of an electrical or electronic product, we must ensure that all the different parts and components of the product meet the requirements. This includes producing technical documentation and EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) as well as providing the finished product with the CE marking, after checking that all the requirements of the directive have been met.

Brexit and RoHS

To the best of our knowledge it is UK's intention to keep the European Union’s aims and principles regarding RoHS within its legislation. Our interpretation is that all rules that affects our products will remain unchanged for the time being. However, we are monitoring future changes and will ensure that the necessary actions are taken to maintain our obligations and responsibilities.
