Military Cables
Standards-led wires, cables and harnesses for defence platforms operating in the air, on land and at sea.
Military cable requirements combine high electrical performance with demanding physical, thermal, and chemical conditions, supported by rigorous qualification standards. Selecting a purpose-aligned cable solution helps streamline approval and integration while reducing through-life risk and supporting long-term reliability. Habia offers approved and compliant cable families plus custom solutions for radars, weapon stations, vehicles, ships, sonar, submarines, aircraft, drones and satellites. Functions range from single wires and signal cables to power, coaxial and hybrid systems.
Why Habia
Habia has supported the defence sector since the 1970s and manufactures cable to selected parts of Def Stan 61-12, VG 95218, BS 3G 210 and other national, airframe and naval requirements. Custom design covers conductors, screens, tubes, fillers, armouring and strength members.
Customers gain engineering support for interpreting, developing and documenting stringent specifications, alongside design, testing, qualification and harness capability. This reduces risk between the written standard and the installed system.
Benefits at a Glance
-
Designed around the constraint
Diameter, bend radius, flexing, shielding and environmental resistance are engineered as one construction.
-
Defence-relevant materials
Depending on platform-specific requirements, fluoropolymers and Habia compounds such as HFS 107 XL B, HFS 125 XL, and TPS 125 XL are a good choice.
-
Platform and lifecycle value
Compact, durable constructions reduce weight, replacement, maintenance and redesign across the platform lifecycle.
-
Reliable control and signal performance
Screening and lay-up provide an effective solution for managing electromagnetic disturbance and ensuring dependable, consistent operation.
-
Less installation complexity
A compact or multifunctional design reduces cable count, routing space and assembly effort.
-
Qualification support
Habia supports the route from requirements and cable design to testing, documentation, qualification and industrialisation.

Insulation and Jacket Materials for Military Cables
Materials for military cables are selected against electrical function, temperature, fire, fluids, movement and the platform qualification route. Defence designs include HFS 107 XL B, HFS 125 XL and TPS 125 XL where appropriate.
-
ETFE
A strong choice where thin walls, low weight, toughness, flame performance and fluid resistance must be combined. Habia uses ETFE across demanding cable families and recognised specifications.
-
FEP
Well suited to elevated temperatures and chemically demanding environments requiring reliable electrical insulation. FEP is used in several established cable standards.
-
PTFE
Recommended for severe temperature and chemical conditions requiring excellent dielectric performance. PTFE is a proven material for high-performance wires and cables.
Certificates and Approvals
Habia manufactures defence cable types approved to, or in accordance with, recognised airframe, land-forces and naval frameworks. Depending on the construction, these include selected parts of:
They also include marine approvals from:
Important: Approvals apply to specific cable types and constructions. Confirm the required standard, manufacturing site and certificate status with Habia before specifying. Please contact us to get more information about the specific approvals.
Applications for Military Cables
Land Defence
VG and national-standard constructions support vehicles, weapon stations, radar and communications. TPS 125 XL is particularly relevant to rugged land-platform sheaths.
Naval and Submarine Systems
Low-fire-hazard, lightweight marine and class-approved constructions support ships, submarines and sonar. HFS 107 XL B and HFS 125 XL address demanding naval sheathing needs.
Defence Aerospace
Airframe wires and lightweight custom cables support aircraft, drones and satellites, with requirements spanning traceability, temperature, weight and qualification.
