Habiaflame - Fire Resistant & Flame Retardant Cable For over 25 years Habia Cable has been manufacturing our Habiaflame range of fire resistant wires and cables, which have been supplied to customers throughout the world. In order to meet the requirements of the latest international fire and flame performance approvals, Habiaflame has now been updated and improved. Habiaflame wires and cables will now be available in two different versions – our standard RV version, as sold for many years, and now the RVH version with a halogen free topcoat. Not only tested and approved to the latest standards, the new version has bolder colours, a better surface finish and can be manufactured in sizes from 0.5mm² up to 70mm². Our Habiaflame wires and cables are used in a wide number of applications where extremely high temperatures will be found (will work up to a peak temperature of 1565°C), and in safety circuits for critical equipment. Habiaflame wires and cables are successfully used in many applications in foundries and steel-mills, glass production, the chemical industry and in the military field. Habiaflame is also used in areas where in the event of fire, all types of vital equipment need to remain operational. The excellent fire performance of the cable allows extra time for equipment to be saved or shut down thus limiting unnecessary damage. Habiaflame wires and cables also have obvious advantages over types of high temperature cables. With a lifecycle that is 5 times longer than many other high temperature cables the replacement of these cables is less frequent. This offers considerable cost savings together with a reduced threat of breakdown situations and lost production. Habiaflame wires and cables contain no asbestos and are unable to propagate fire. They are flame retardant and highly temperature resistant. Low Installation and Operating Costs Due to Habiaflames extreme high temperature performance, experience has shown that it often does not need to be enclosed in any other protective system, but can be installed completely exposed. This makes installation quicker and also means that the cable can be easily inspected, such that damage can be easily found. Ordinary cable that is subject to constant high temperature generally fails as the plasticiser in the insulation dries out quickly, leading to operational problems or production shutdowns, which often means replacement of the cable. This does not happen with Habiaflame and thus the lifetime can be at least five times longer than that of other high temperature cables. This can result in considerable cost savings compared to the use of conventional cables with the increased time between replacement and the reduced amount of downtime. Habiaflame cables are flexible with a minimum bend radius of ten times the outside diameter and are also easy to terminate which simplifies the installation. Both version of Habiaflame are mechanically tough, chemical and weather resistant making them particularly suitable for use in hazardous areas conditions when reliability is required. Cable Construction Habiaflame wires and cables are made up of nickel plated copper conductors with a resisting barrier tape of Mica. This is insensitive to heat and will not propagate fire. The single wire or multi-core cable is then surrounded by a woven glass fibre braid which is impregnated with either our standard or halogen free topcoat. Both topcoats are highly temperature stable and protect against chemicals and liquids. Approvals Habiaflame wires and cables have been tested and approved to the following fire and flame performance standards: • IEC 60331-31 – flame with impact at 830°C for 120 minutes • IEC 60331-21 – flame at 750°C for 90 minutes • IEC 60332-3-24 Cat C – flame propagation • BS 6387:1994 W clause 11.2 – flame at 650°C with water spray • EN 50200 – PH120 For further information on our range of fire resistant and flame retardant wires and cables please contact your local Habia Sales Office
